Disgruntled MP Udit Raj leaves BJP, joins Congress

Prominent Dalit leader and North West Delhi’s BJP MP Udit Raj, who was denied re-nomination by the party, today quits BJP and joined Congress party after meeting party chief Rahul Gandhi in the morning.

The BJP MP had warned the party two days ago that he will resign from the party if he was not named as the candidate from the seat in the ongoing Lok Sabha election. However, the BJP has announced Punjabi singer Hans Raj Hans name for theNorth West Delhi seat.

“Congress President @RahulGandhi welcomes Shri Udit Raj into the Congress party,” the party tweeted today. Udit Raj said he was denied ticket the BJP for speaking out about atrocities against Dalits. “The BJP is against the interests of Dalits. It wants people who wouldn’t utter a word when Dallits are made to suffer,” he alleged.

He was welcomed into the Congress by Delhi unit chief Sheila Dikshit and national spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.
The former BJP MP had often held views contrary to the party’s stand, especially during the Sabarimala issue and ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by Dalit organisations last year.
