Asaram’s son Narayan Sai gets life imprisonment in rape case

Narayan Sai, the son of self-styled godman Asaram, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in Surat on Tuesday in a rape case. Three of Sai’s aides Ganga, Jamuna and Hanuman were awarded 10 years imprisonment.

The court had convicted Narayan Sai on April 26. The 40-year-old Narayan Sai was arrested from Pipli in Haryana in December 2013 after two sisters from Surat filed rape complaints against him and his father Asaram.

One of the women had accused Sai of repeated sexual assaults when they were living at Asaram’s ashram between 2002 and 2005 in Surat. The victim’s elder sister had made a similar allegation against Asaram while she was living at an ashram near Ahmedabad between 1997 and 2006.

Additional Sessions Judge P S Gadhvi handed down the sentence to Sai and asked him to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim.
