Confident over BJP’s disastrous fall in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee predicted that the BJP may not be about to get more than 17 seats in the largest state of Uttar Pradesh, out of total 80 seats. It may be recalled that UP numbers are crucial for any party to form government at the center. In 2014, BJP managed to get 71 seats, besides two more seats to it’s allay.
Expressing confidence over landslide victory for the SP-BSP combination in UP, she said that the Congress will get seven to eight seats. It may be recalled that some of BJP heavyweights like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh are contesting from this state.
She strongly refuted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contention that he can only offer a stable government, where as the opposition can provide only a `khichdi’ regime. Banerjee asked what was wrong with khichdi. “You can have rice, dal or potato curry also. It is put together in khichdi,” she reasoned.
She also cautioned the PM and said, “He must know that he is the PM and when he is talking, people are listening. Political speech is also about culture. I have been called a goon and whatnot. But I don’t talk like that.” She also said she couldn’t rate the PM even one…”He has become worse than fascist”.
