`Chowkidar Chor Hai’ is the worst accusation faced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his five-year term and practically kept the ruling-BJP into defensive. Using this slogan Congress chief Rahul Gandhi has tried to project PM Modi as `villain’ before the electorate during Lok Sabha polls 2019. He even tried to tarnish `clean image’ of the Prime Minister.
However, with the unconditional apology submitted by the Congress chief to the Supreme Court for for lying that an apex court order in Rafale review had endorsed his political slogan Chowkidar Chor Hai against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, makes the opposition defensive. In a way, his apology has provided a powerful political instrument for the BJP leadership.
Ahead of the crucial fine two phases of polling Rahul Gandhi said that “The Deponent unconditionally apologises for the wrongful attributions to this Hon’ble Court. The Deponent further states that any such attributions were entirely zunintentional, non-willful and inadvertent.“
It may be recalled that on 30 April, Supreme Court categorically asserted that Rahul Gandhi has to either offer a clear-cut apology or brave criminal contempt for attributing ‘chowkidar chor hai targeting’ PM Narendra Modi to the court.
Even after Rahul Gandhi submitted apology for his remarks, the Congress and other opposition leaders are yet to express their regrets to the people, as they had repeatedly made such remarks during poll campaign. Now, the Prime Minister seems to be more aggressive and expose Congress first family corrupt deeds in the public dominion.
Hours after Rahul Gandhi’s apology before the Supreme Court, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that if the NDA government comes back to power, he will put the ‘shahenshah’ who looted farmers behind bars within the next five years.
“Whenever there was Congress’ government in Centre and Haryana, they took away the land of farmers at low rates. With your blessings, this Chowkidar has taken those who looted farmers to the court. They are going around seeking bail. They are going to ED offices. They used to think that they are ‘shahenshahs’ (emperor) and nobody can touch them. Now they are nervous. I have already taken them to the door of the jail, give me your blessings and I’ll put them in jail within next five years,” Modi said in an apparent reference to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra, who is currently facing trial in a land deal case.
Prime Minister’s remarks indicate that now BJP leadership is attempting to counter `Chowkidar Chor Hai’ accusation by exposing Congress decade-old corrupt practices loosing public money. Already, Modi’s reference to former prime minister Rahul Gandhi as the `Brashtachari No 1’ has made the Congress leadership voiceless. None of them attempted to assert Rahul Gandhi as `Mr Clean’, expect referring to his martyrdom.
