Violence broke out in West Bengal during the sixth phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019, today, as the vehicles in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Ghatal Bharti Ghosh’s convoy was pelted with stones. In the incident, a security guard of Ghosh suffered injuries. The BJP has alleged the Trinamool Congress workers to be behind the attack.
Meanwhile, a BJP worker was found dead in Gopiballabpur of Jhargram district in West Bengal. The BJP worker has been identified as Raman Singh. He was found dead on Saturday night. In another incident, two BJP workers Ananta Guchait and Ranjit Maity were shot at on Saturday night in Bhagabanpur of East Medinipur district. Both the injured were admitted to hospital.
The incident took place a day before the sixth phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 in the state. Eight constituencies in the state – Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, Bishnupur – will vote on Sunday, May 12. The ruling Trinamool Congress, the BJP, the Congress and the Left Front constituents – the CPI(M), the CPI and the AIFB – are the main contenders in the state.
