The University Grants Commission (UGC) issued a notice inviting proposals from research scholars to study the quality of PhD theses being approved by various universities over the last ten years.
The UGC had on 21 May invited proposals for commissioning a study on ‘Quality of PhD Theses in Indian Universities’. The UGC hopes that the study will be completed within six months.
“UGC invites proposals to conduct a study on the ‘Quality of PhD Theses in Indian Universities’. The scope of the study will involve studying PhD theses of different disciplines from various Central Universities, State Universities, State Private Universities and Deemed to be Universities, completed over the last ten years,” said Rajnish Jain, Secretary of the UGC.
Jail also said that the study will be conducted on a pan India level since it will throw some light on the quality of PhD theses at the Central and state levels, and whether they meet the quality standards proposed.
