Social media’s most influential leader Sushma

Former External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj was perhaps the most influential politician the Indian government has ever had. After taking up the role of Minister of External Affairs in 2014, Swaraj used Twitter to directly connect to voters, Indians living overseas and also Pakistan.

In February 2015, she shot to international fame after helping 168 Indians trapped in Iran. The same year, she helped an Indian who lost her wallet passport and money in Germany.

In 2016, she helped an Indian man to rescue his brother who had bee stuck at Doha airport. The same year she helped Indian sportsman Abhinav Bindra whose coach had lost his passport in Brazil during Rio Olympics to which she replied that would only help if he promises to win a Gold medal.

Later that year, she helped a Karachi based Pakistani bride and her family to get Indian visa on time to marry a Jodhpur resident. In 2017, she impressed her fans and critics when she allowed a Pakistani girl a year-long medical visa for her open heart surgery.

In 2018, An Indian National stuck in the Philippines asked for her help on Twitter. She replied, “if you belong to Jammu & Kashmir, we will help. But you have written Indian occupied Kashmir in your bio.” He changed his details after which Sushma Swaraj asked the Indian embassy to help.

In November last year, Swaraj refused to contest the Lok Sabha election citing health issues also said that she will not hold a key position in Modi’s 2.0 cabinet.
