The son of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, Amit, was arrested today by the police from his residence in Bilaspur. Amit is state president of the regional outfit Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (J) floated by his father in June 2016.
Reports have it that Amit Jogi has been accused of falsely declaring himself as belonging to the Scheduled Tribe category. He has also been accused of lying about his birthplace on his poll affidavit.
The arrest was made on a complaint by BJP leader Sameera Paikra. Paikra alleged that Jogi lied about his caste as well as the birth date on his election affidavit. Paikra, who had then contested against Amit on the BJP ticket also challenged his victory in the high court. Amit though got relief from the court.
Early this year on 3 February an FIR was registered against Amit Jogi under Section 420 of IPC (cheating and dishonesty) by Paikra at the Gaurella police station in Bilaspur. “It’s a political vendetta in action by the Bhupesh Baghel government against Amit”, said Ajit Jogi reacting to his son’s arrest.
